About Ngorongoro Crater
The crater was formed around three million years ago whena 20,000 foot volcano was blown apart by a cataclysmic explosion. This left a crater ten miles wide and 2,000 feet deep which is known as the Ngorongoro Crater today. The crater is a home to animals like the lion, elephant buffaloes among others.
The exciting part about visiting the crater is looking at it from the rimwhich gives a fascinating scenic view. There is a lodge at the rim; Crater Lodge which hosts tourists to the area. You can also make your way to the floor of the crater by walking down the steep slopes. As you walk/drivein the crater you will be able to spot several animals grazing peacefully.
