Remote, green and simply stunning, Nyungwe Forest National Park lies in southwest Rwanda. Perhaps its greatest allure is that the vast rainforest is home to a huge variety of primate species, including cheeky chimpanzees and Colobus monkeys, as well as over 250 varieties of bird – some of which are endemic to the park. Trek through the lush jungle, bamboo trees and mist-shrouded tea terraces as you marvel at the sheer beauty of the area. Join the birds in the trees atop the thrilling canopy walk, mountain bike along wildlife-filled dirt tracks, or head out with an expert tracker in search of the park’s spectacularly diverse inhabitants.
Nyungwe Forest is home to 13 types of primates, including a 400-in number troop of habituated Ruwenzori Black and White Colobus and the habituated chimpanzees. You can also spot 75 types of different mammals 310 bird species and an astonishing 120 types of butterflies in the park. The park has also rich flora with over 1000 plant species.
