Upon your arrival at Olkiombo Airstrip, you will be warmly welcomed by our knowledgeable Maasai Guides, the true savanna specialists ready to take you on your very first game drive en-route to the camp. Hop aboard 4×4 vehicle and embark on a spectacular game viewing. The periods particularly from January to March are very good since it is the peak of wildebeest calving season. The wildebeest calves become easy targets for lions and other predators.
Capture shots of herds of elephants, wildebeests, zebras, giraffes and gazelles grazing. You will arrive at your first destination, Base camp Masai Mara, in time for lunch. Enjoy authentic signature cuisines and gracious hospitality. After a well-deserved lunch, you will be escorted to your tent to allow you to settle into the area and adjust to the pace of safari before your next adventure. Late in the afternoon, you will join your Maasai Guide for an afternoon game drive in Kenya’s most popular game sanctuary where you will have the best opportunity of spotting the Big Five- Lion, Leopard, Elephant, buffalo and rhino.
The term “Big 5” was first coined by big-game hunters as a way to acknowledge that these species were the most difficult and dangerous to track and hunt. Numerous other species of bird and wildlife also inhabit this dynamic region, including hyenas, gazelles, impalas, giraffes, zebras, vultures, cranes, eagles, falcons, and ostriches, many of which you’ll spot during the drive through the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. You will visit nearby watering holes where on a hot day you’ll spot many birds and mammals, including, with luck, the elusive leopard. Return to Base camp Masai Mara Camp for a delicious three-course dinner and overnight stay.
